Dr Mpofu is a plant breeder with more than 24 years of plant breeding experience. He is a holder of a PhD in Plant breeding and Plant pathology (University of the Free State, RSA), MSc. Plant Breeding and Genetics (Texas A&M University, USA) and a BSc. Hons. Crop Science (University of Zimbabwe). He is currently employed as a Senior Sugarcane Plant Breeder at ZSAES. His expertise is in early generation family selection, genotype by environment interaction, germplasm preservation and utilisation, applied quantitative genetics, experimental design and applied statistical analysis. His role is to develop high yielding sugarcane varieties with resistance to major pests and diseases and adaptable to all production systems in the Zimbabwe Sugar Industry.
