The main purpose of the department is to:

•  Develop and evaluate cost effective, sustainable, and environmentally sound management practices  for the control or management of economically important insect pests of sugarcane.
• Generate knowledge on the biology and ecology of present and potential pests.
• Project and mitigate the yield losses caused by these insect pests.
