Highlights of the 30th Zimbabwe Sugarcane Industry Seminar

The 30th Zimbabwe Sugarcane Industry Seminar was held at Triangle Country Club on Thursday 16 October 2025. The theme of the event was “ZSIS at 30: Innovate, Adapt, Thrive — Bridging Information Gaps and Empowering Zimbabwe’s Sugar Industry for a Sustainable Future”. The guest of honour was Dr M. Sibanda, Chief Executive Officer of Starafrica Corporation. The seminar was attended by approximately 300 participants representing all stakeholders in the sugarcane industry from growers, millers, suppliers, financiers, academia and government. Participants from South Africa included representatives from South African Sugar Technologists' Association (SASTA), University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN), Ion Exchange Africa, Jenkins Africa and Anton Paar. There were 10 speakers from various facets of the industry including ZSAES, Vision Sugar Zimbabwe, UZ, Greenfuel, Mutirikwi Sub Catchment and Out-grower Associations. Key messages included;           

  • Bridging information gaps through digital platforms and farmer-centric extension
  • Empowering stakeholders with actionable data and inclusive policies
  • Innovating boldly while adapting wisely
  • Thriving together as one united industry
