GROWER ALERT: YELLOW SUGARCANE APHID (YSA) Yellow Sugarcane Aphid pressure is increasing across several areas. Early detection and timely, correct intervention are critical to prevent yield and quality losses. 🔎 What growers must do NOW: Intensify field scouting, especially in young and actively growing cane Act early when infestation thresholds are reached Avoid panic spraying and repeated use of the same chemical 🧪 Insecticide Management – VERY IMPORTANT Ensure you have adequate stock of REGISTERED insecticides for YSA control and use them in ROTATION to delay resistance development. ✅ Recommended rotation options: Allice 20SP DeltaM 2.5EC Aphox ⚠️ DO NOT:

Since 1980, Zimbabwe commemorates tree planting day on the first Saturday of every December. Today, ZSAES commemorated this event by planting more than 200 trees including the 2025 tree of the year – the sausage tree (Mumvee) around the experiment station. We took a significant step towards a sustainable future. Each sapling we placed in the ground represents a commitment to restore our environment and combating climate change. Trees are vital for our planet; they absorb carbon dioxide, release oxygen, and provide habitats for countless species. By participating in this event, we are not just planting trees; we are sowing
Today was more than just a tree-planting event; it was an opportunity to plant seeds of change at the Zimbabwe Sugar Association Experiment Station. Each sapling we planted symbolizes our collective effort to combat environmental degradation and promote biodiversity. Trees are vital architects of our ecosystem, providing essential oxygen, regulating climate, conserving water, and fostering biodiversity. From their shade to their fruit, their timber to their role in preventing soil erosion, their uses and benefits are endless. A small act with immense impact! #TreePlanting #Sustainability #ZSAES #GreenFuture #EcosystemHeroes

Those ploughing out their sugarcane this summer and looking for a suitable rotation crop, please note that seed for sunnhemp and velvet bean is available at ZSAES for only USD$3 per kg. Sunnhemp and velvet bean are good rotation crops as they fix nitrogen, provide green manure - thus improving soil health and break pest and disease cycles. You need approximately 30kg of seed to plant 1 ha. Mkwasine Sugarcane Farmers Association #sugarcane #crop rotation
Varieties roadshow at Mr Nyoni's farm at Hippo Valley went well yesterday. Attendance was good and lively. The display was impressive. A time well spent for farmers. The demand for seed is overwhelming. Clean seed is a precursor to high yield. The Director addressed the crowd explaining variety and seed issues, achievements and challenges.
